About Zel MacWilliams
Photograph by Erica Derrickson.
I grew up in a small town in northern West Virginia, the youngest of four (All Z’s!). I never thought photography was a world that was possible for me to be a part of, so I pursued science instead. I was so proud to receive my bachelors of science at st. lawrence university in canton, NY and soon moved to boston to intern at the aquarium; marine mammal rescue department.
I found that In all the worlds I've been apart of, a camera always found its way into my hands. One day I stopped fighting and just went with it and bought myself a canon camera.
The camera is an amazing tool to try and make sense of the world and to meet vastly different people who live in it. photography can tell a story and it will always be apart of our lives, whether with professional equipment or just a smartphone. I've found that it has become an essential part of my life in sharing the uniqueness I find in each scene or individual i am with.
